Lessons In The Sky

Last week an astute reader found an intriguing connection between the Andromeda Story, and the current state of world wide belligerence. The Andromeda story is a tale of the consequences of mortal arrogance, and features no less than six constellations, put in the sky as an eternal reminder not to push our luck with the powers that control the Universe. A lesson, our reader notes, that a few world leaders might do well to remember...

As a child, stories of mythology were among my favourite reading. Reading the stories behind the constellations has renewed my love for mythology.

I couldn't help wondering though, if our world powers (Bush and Bin Laden come to mind) knew those stories, and the consequences of their arrogance, would they be in such a hurry to continue their battles? History has shown that it is obvious that most of the so-called educated people that rule our planet are sorely lacking in the mythological portion of their education. At the very least, common sense seems to have taken a vacation.

Maybe I am missing something, but the way I see it, many of the leaders throughout history have had the goal of ruling the largest portion of our planet, all in the name of their beliefs. The question I have always had was, when the dust settles, and they see that our beautiful Earth has been destroyed, with nothing much left of its former beauty and bounty, what will have been the point? Not much different than a person murdering their former spouse upon hearing that the "ex" has found someone else. Their excuse is often "if I can't have them, neither can anyone else." Is that the same mentality as these fighting leaders? "If I can't rule the Earth, then there will be no Earth to rule!"

Pretty scary, huh? Instead of a new star or group of stars being placed in the galaxy, there may soon be one less light in the sky.

Colleen

Indeed. ONE LESS LIGHT IN THE SKY. Powerful words. Let us hope they are not prophetic as well.
