Mexican Skies is fortunate to have attracted the attention of Albert Coffee. He is an astro-archaeologist, currently the director of the language center at the University of the Sea (Universidad del Mar), Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. He is a scholar, who studies ancient cultures and their relationship with astronomy, focusing on the prehispanic cultures of mesoamerica. And he has generously agreed to share some of his work with us. With degrees in Anthropology and Geology, and many years spent digging up ruins, Albert knows his stuff. More importantly, he knows how to bring it alive. Ancient cultures didn't simply live differently, they thought differently, and Albert has the ability to show us the ancient world through ancient eyes. He is that rare breed of scientist/poet, and Mexican Skies is proud to welcome him to the family.
Inspiration came back to me today in a song. It rose up like the mist in the morning time. A kaleidoscope of color circled in every dewdrop. The light and sound were like nothing I had ever seen or heard. It was beyond seeing. It was beyond hearing. Life was fractured into a prismatic state. I heard it as I walked down a city street. It was brought on by the sound of a drumbeat or hammers pounding on rock. I couldn't decipher between the two but I was immediately enveloped by visions of temples being built and artificial mountains being raised, brick by brick. I then imagined their destruction at the hands of a foreign invader. I imagined the toil, the sweat, the blood and the death that it took to construct the sacred centers of the human heart and what it took to destroy them. It suddenly became clear to me, as the rain drifted over in sheets coming in from the darkened sky to the East, that the music came from the water and that the water was going to save us all.
"The water will save you all from self destruction. The rain washes clean the stains of time. As the rivers overflow their banks in the summer so too will come an end to the pain and sadness entailed in the building of structures intended for offering prayer to a false god. The procession of humanity moves to the beat of a human heart and congregates at the base of a building that houses holy remains. Manmade mountains will crumble under the pressure of so much moisture falling from the sky. The temples will be eroded by so much cleanliness. It is true that cleanliness is a virtue.
"The water cycle has begun repeating at a higher amplitude and frequency, as you may or may not have noticed. And now the coyote has become you to escape the flood. Now you have become the coyote for relief from the sweat and toil. Stare into the eyes of the jaguar and heed the call of the eagle, 7 Eagle. It is your call that echoes out over the ocean. It is your voice that returns altered and uttering a foreign language. Rise with the water that washes us clean and teach us how to live in the sky above the sea so that the invader may never steal the music within our hearts."
– Coyote
It's been more than fifty years since one of the most peaceful and enlightened cultures on Earth was outlawed by the Chinese communist government, and the Dalai Lama forced into exile. When will this momentous wrong be made right? Does anybody care? The Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people have not given up. They wait, with the kind of spiritual patience unknown to the western psyche. Oh yes, we could all learn a lot from Tibet. Why aren't governments like Canada doing something? Because there are no votes in it, that's why. It's time to change that, and let our governments know that we do care. To learn more about the culture and history of Tibet, and what you can do to help, visit The Government of Tibet in Exile.
